Will I get The Delegate Information Packet in the US mail?

No, the only way to get this material is to download it from the website. KEEP IN MIND, however, that some of the documents are timely. If you wait too long to download the packet and you want to apply for the Samsung Scholarship, some military documents and information needed to be attached may be difficult or impossible to get from the U.S. Government Records Center. The Samsung Scholarship also requires a high school administrative signature and school seal.

When will I find out my Residence Hall assignment which includes my city group assignment?

You will receive your political affiliation (Nationalist or Federalist) when you receive your email acceptance letter.  This letter will also include other important information such as your City, County and Residence Dorm Assignments.

Can I select my roommate when we attend Arkansas Girls State?

No.  Even though you may have friends and acquaintances from your school when you attend Arkansas Girls State, you will have different Residence and Dorm assignments.  Part of this experience is to have each person expand their experiences on their own, without influence from others.  It is not uncommon for each Citizen and Delegate to make new, lifelong friendships from the experiences they attain at Arkansas Girls State.

What time should I check in on Sunday, May 28, 2017?

Expect to arrive on the Campus of Harding University at your Residence Dorm assignment at Noon on Sunday, May 28th, 2017.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  Delegates will not be allowed to arrive late, leave early, or “check out” for any part of the session.  Delegates who cannot attend the entire session should not be selected as delegates and should not register.

After I check in, can we go to a restaurant for lunch?

No.  Once you arrive on campus, and complete your on-site registration, you will begin your Session.

Will I be able to use my Cell Phone, Text my friends, and post to Social Media?

No.  Once you arrive on campus, and complete your on-site registration, you will begin your Sessions.  The week will be very busy without times for cell phone activity.  A few minutes before “lights out” cell phone use will be available.  Other than those times, your cell phone needs to be in your dorm room.

Yes.  Each Citizen and Delegate is required to have the Medical Certificate completed approximately 30-days prior to attending Arkansas Girls State.  The signature of the Doctor confirms that you have been seen by a physicial.  A Doctor’s signature also verifies if you want the nursing staff to dispense “over the counter” medication, such as, aspirin, Tylenol, cough drops, sore throat lozenges, etc.

What if I forget to bring something I need?

We have provided a list of the items you will need to bring with you to Arkansas Girls State.  If you should have forgotten something, we will have a Girls State Canteen where most items will be available for purchase.

What about meals?

The dining hall will be available at certain times set up especially coordinated with the Girls State Sessions.  Citizens with special dietary needs should inform the director at least 2 weeks beforehand. When the dining hall is not opened, you can go to the Girl State Shop for snacks.

My hobby is shopping. Will I be able to keep up my skill?

Absolutely, in addition to snacks, the Girls State Canteen will have souvenirs galore for every taste, every budget. We will have t-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts, and other items as well. You might also want to bring money for any incidentals that you may have forgotten. The Delegate Information Packet downloaded will also have more information about souvenirs.

What should I bring to wear?

You have guidelines as to what to bring in The Delegate Information Packet. You will have to carry your luggage, so make sure it’s not too heavy.  During the day, most girls wear shorts and t-shirts. It is a Christian campus, and all are required to wear modest clothing.

When and where are the Girls State Orientation and briefings scheduled this year?

Each ALA sponsoring Unit generally holds Orientation and briefings to familiarize delegates and their families about Arkansas Girls State. Usually, a delegate attends the briefing scheduled by the ALA sponsoring Unit and in the area of her school.

What activities are included in the Arkansas Girls State week?

At Arkansas Girls State you have the opportunity to take a leadership role, or to sit back and observe. You will hear the phrase, “get involved” many times. We can guarantee you will get out of the experience what you put into it. You have the chance to run for political office, to help those running for office, and to participate in group activities, such as your city’s project, the State Fair, write for the daily newspaper, join the chorus or play an instrument in the band.

Will there be any activities for those who like to sing and play a musical instrument?

We have a chorus and a band that practice during free time (you can do both.) The chorus performs before the Inauguration. Identify your choice of choir or band, and the instrument you will bring or need.

Can my family visit during the week?

We welcome them on Wednesday night at the Inauguration.

Can I drive myself?

We do not recommend that you drive yourself because of how tired you will be on Friday when you leave. That is not conducive to good driving ability. If that is the only way you can get to Harding University, then you must turn in your keys upon arriving at the On-site Registration.
