Governor

information on running for Governor of ALA Arkansas Girls State

ALA Arkansas Girls State is a mock state created to provide an engaging learning opportunity for delegates to experience the political process firsthand. Delegates are assigned to mock political parties and mock cities that are grouped into mock counties that make up the mock state of ALA Arkansas Girls State.

The highest leadership position at ALA Arkansas Girls State is the Governor, which is an elected position through a series of elections beginning at the city level. The details of the election process for Governor will be provided onsite at the beginning of the program. Delegates interested in running for Governor need to demonstrate high leadership skills, enjoy speaking in front of a large group of people, and be prepared to give back to the American Legion Auxiliary organization through the following year including returning to ALA Arkansas Girls State the next summer. Specific criteria and expectations will be provided at an informational meeting on the first day of the program.

No prepared campaign materials are allowed. Materials will be available onsite.

The ALA Arkansas Girls State Governor is awarded a scholarship from the American Legion Auxiliary and the Rockefeller Scholarship from Ms. Emma Jumper, ALA Arkansas Girls State Governor 2011.
